This Sylhet tour is your perfect holiday destination in Bangladesh during the monsoon and rainy season in Bangladesh. During your travel you will experience the holy mystical city of Sylhet, experience life on the waterways and visit Ratargul Swamp Forest. The best time to visit this beautiful area is during the rainy season as water levels rise higher than other times, revealing the true beauty of the place around this time of the year.
The boat is the ideal way of traveling here and a magical way to get through the lonely swamp forests where the only sound is sometimes the melodious song of a boatsman. We’ll also get to see Lalakhal, 44 kilometers away from Sylhet. Lala Khal offers all kinds of flavors and colors: blue skies, deep green forests, transparent green rivers, surrounded by hills covered with tea plantations. The rivers turn transparent green due to the minerals inside the water. The intense beauty of Lala Khal will mesmerize any soul.
Sreemangal is a beautiful town located in the northeast region of Bangladesh, known for its picturesque tea gardens, lush green forests, and stunning natural beauty. The town is surrounded by hills and forests, which are home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species of birds and animals. The Lawachara National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is located nearby and is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

The town has a rich cultural heritage, with a mix of indigenous, Bengali, and tribal communities coexisting in harmony. The local cuisine is a delightful fusion of flavors and spices, and includes dishes like pitha, doi chira, and shorshe ilish. Sreemangal is a serene and enchanting destination, perfect for those seeking a tranquil retreat amidst nature’s bounty. Whether you are a tea lover, an adventure seeker, or simply someone who wants to soak in the beauty of nature, Sreemangal is a place you must visit.
We’ll stay at Baikka Beel Holiday Home located midway between Srimongol and Moulvibazar and surrounded by the beauty of nature. We’ll get to know the community-based tourism initiative which celebrates Manipuri Heritage so you’ll get an exclusive experience among the Manipuri Community, an ethnic tribe in Bangladesh who’s core base was in Manipur, once a sovereign state and now part of India.
The Manipuri people, also known as Meitei or Meetei, are an ethnic group native to the northeastern Indian state of Manipur. They have a unique culture and traditions that have been shaped by their history, geography, and interaction with other communities in the region.
The Manipuri language is the main language spoken by the Manipuri people and is a part of the Tibeto-Burman language family. It is known for its richness in literature, music, and dance, which have been recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
The traditional attire of the Manipuri people is called the phanek and is a type of sarong worn by women, while men wear a dhoti and shirt. The women of Manipur are also known for their skill in weaving and embroidery, which is reflected in the intricate designs of their clothing.
The Manipuri people are predominantly followers of the Sanamahism religion, which is an indigenous religion that worships deities associated with the elements of nature. However, many Manipuris are also followers of Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity.

Day 2: Lawachara, Madhabpur Lake and Monipuri Tea Picking
We’ll start the day with a short tour to Lawachara National Park, the only rainforest in Bangladesh. The park is known for the relative ease of seeing primates including four globally threatened species: Northern Pig-tailed Macaque, Phayre’s Leaf Monkey, Capped Langur, and the most important population in Bangladesh of Western Hoolock Gibbon, the only ape found in Bangladesh. We’ll then go for a tour to Madhabpur Lake, which is a great place during winter season as migratory birds from colder places migrate to the lake and become part of the scene.
The lake was created during the irrigation of the nearby tea fields which are dotted on the surrounding hills. After visiting the lake we’ll go to Bhanubil where we’ll get to experience the local community and get to do tea picking with the local Manipuri community in the tea plantations. We’ll also have tea with the locals and will get to know the village. Lunch consists of Manipuri dishes. In the afternoon you’ll enjoy walking in the area surrounding the village and you’ll get to interact with the locals and learn about the weaving processes. Manipuri people are famous for their special fabrics like moiraingphee, leirum, lasingphee and phanek. Tribal textiles are woven on aloin-loom, a type of back-strap loom commonly used by hill people. Sometimes the belt is woven out of cane or bamboo. Weaving is universal and every Manipuri girl knows how to weave.
