Day 1 and 2 Nijhum Dwip
Nijhum Dwip is located deep in the delta. The part ‘Dwip’ means island, but it is not an island like others as it is not in the middle of the sea but between different rivers. Being here makes you feel literally and figuratively far away from the civilized world and the luxury that we know so well. In the mangrove forest there is a herd of about 5.000 spotted deer to be found, which is an exciting attraction if you encounter them. It is an ideal eco-touristic destination where we can also find wild boars, monkeys and migrating birds. We’ll go there using a boat and local transport. We’ll stay in a basic local guesthouse and explore the area from there.
Day 3 Chittagong
Today we’ll travel to Chittagong, the second largest city in Bangladesh and also the largest port in the country, to the south. In the afternoon we’ll arrive in Chittagong. In colonial times – except for Calcutta – most of the British in all of Bengal lived here. We’ll visit the shipwrecks on the beach. Chittagong is famous for this, shipwrecks are brought here and completely gutted to resell all parts.
Day 4 Chittagong and Kaptai Lake
We’ll take a boat trip on Kaptai Lake and pass through a gorge to visit Subalong and meet some tribes on the islands in the lake. One of those tribes is the Chakma, who also run a small restaurant where lunch is probably taken. At the end of the afternoon we’ll return to Chittagong
Day 5 Cox’s Bazar
Today we’ll drive all the way to Cox’s Bazar. Cox’s Bazaar has the longest natural sandy beach in the world and it already attracts plenty of Bengali tourists. After a visit to the center, we will soon leave the center and have perfect sandy beaches for ourselves. Cox’s Bazar is more than just a beach. You will also come across special fishing boats as well as fresh coconuts and colorful merchandise from Myanmar.
Day 6 St Martin’s Island
In the morning we’ll drive to Teknaf. From here we’ll take the ferry (three hours) to Saint Martin’s Island, a small tropical paradise surrounded by coral reefs. There are no roads, rickshaws, cars, just palm trees, fish markets, beaches and a few turtles.
Day 7 Cox’s Bazar
Visit the island in the morning, enjoy your free time on the coral island. There are dry fish markets, local markets to enjoy. We will take you to an island if time permits called Chara Deep! Here the coral is very sharp and you have to be careful if you want to snorkel! In the afternoon, we’ll take the boat back to Teknaf and return to Cox’s Bazar. Overnight at Cox’s Bazar.
