Over time, Bengali cuisine has been largely influenced by Mughlai cuisine left behind by the Persian rulers. This has resulted in Bengali cuisine containing many rich aromatic dishes such as biriyani and korma, which require the use of a large number of spices and an extensive amount of ghee. Dhaka, the Mughal capital of the Bengal Subah (which includes modern-day Bangladesh and the Indian states of West Bengal), was an important trade center in South Asia, so many culinary styles from around the world have influenced the city’s cuisine. After Dhaka became the capital of East Bengal, the Bengali population began to adopt the city’s cuisine, popularizing many unknown Persian, Turkish and Arabic-inspired dishes.
We will start our tour at the market where we will explain everything about the spices, vegetables and fruits and where you can try a few street snacks. We will also make time to have some traditional tea accompanied with a few traditional desserts of course.
We will then end our tour in a nice local traditional restaurant where you will have a variety of dishes of which you can choose. And in the end you will have, of course, more tea.
